Expected to be released in August … Competitive at a lower price than the previous work ↑
Targeting the Chinese market by adding gold color… “Stop Huawei’s advance”

A photo of Samsung Electronics' next-generation foldable (foldable screen) phone, presumed to be 'Galaxy Z Flip 4 (hereafter Flip 4)', has been leaked. Samsung Electronics will release the Flip 4 along with the 'Galaxy Z Fold 4' in the second half of this year.

Looking at the photos obtained and released by the information technology (IT) YouTube channel 'Tech Talk TV' on the 13th, Flip 4 looks almost the same as the previous Flip 3. The two-tone color, dual camera system, and hole punch (display with only a small circular cutout for the front camera) design are all the same as the previous work. However, the hinge (hinge) part where the display breaks is thin. Along with this, wrinkles that occur when the display is folded and opened have also disappeared.

Quoting a source familiar with the matter, Tech Talk TV said, "It will be equipped with a 12-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10-megapixel selfie camera on the front." It is highly likely that a 3700mAh battery will be installed.”

Samsung Electronics may unveil the Flip 4 as early as August this year. Many speculate that the shipping price will be lower than the previous one (about 1.25 million won). Famous IT chip star (information leaker) John Prosser said, "The Flip 4 will be announced on August 10th and will be released on the 26th of the same month." After that, we will bring out the gold color again for the first time in two years and use it as a vanguard to attack the Chinese market.”

Another chip star (information leaker) Yogesh Brar said, "The Flip 4 features a 6.7-inch FHD+ super active organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display and supports a 120Hz scan rate." is 2.1 inches, which is slightly larger than the previous 1.9 inches.” The application processor (AP) is said to apply the first generation of Qualcomm 'Snapdragon 8 Plus' produced by TSMC in Taiwan.

According to market research firm Display Supply Chain (DSCC), the global shipment of foldable phones is expected to exceed 16 million units this year. This is a more than 100% increase from last year's 8.6 million units. In the first quarter of this year, shipments reached 220,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 571%.

Samsung Electronics accounted for more than half of all foldable phone shipments in the first quarter of this year, ranking first for three consecutive quarters. However, its share fell to 74% from 96% in the previous quarter. During the same period, China's Huawei's market share jumped from single digits to 20%.

Some in the industry are analyzing that Samsung Electronics' location is being threatened. Samsung Electronics still has superior technology, but it is pointed out that Huawei's pursuit will not let go of the tension. In fact, Huawei recently unveiled an out-folding foldable phone that was discontinued due to a defect, announcing the improvement of its technological capabilities.

Other Chinese companies, such as Xiaomi and Vibo, have also entered the foldable phone market one after another. Oppo, which has attracted attention with its wrinkle-free foldable phone, is preparing to launch a clamshell-type foldable phone similar to the Samsung Electronics Flip series. A domestic industry insider said, “From the standpoint of Samsung Electronics, there will be pressure to ensure the success of this new product launch and consolidate its dominance in the foldable phone market.”

Some say that Samsung Electronics, the frontrunner, will not be easily overtaken by other companies. Kim Seo-won, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, said, “Samsung Electronics will focus on boosting sales with foldable phones as an innovative model to overcome the sluggish performance of the Galaxy S series and the continued success of the Apple iPhone.” In 2022, Samsung Electronics will maintain a market share of over 70% even when global companies enter the market.”
